The Akranes Museum Centre is a popular attraction in the town and full of interesting artefacts and items. It is heavily geared towards the sea, with lots of nautical items and a collection of old fishing boats. Also amongst the large outdoor collections are a number of historic houses, a church building, and a boathouse. There are also interesting collections of fossils, and local legends. The museum has an entrance fee, and is usually open year-round.
