Akranes is a lovely town, and not too far from Reykjavik for an outing. In its centre, many original wooden buildings still exist, giving a historic and attractive feel to the place. Skólabraut is the most interesting of the streets, with many wooden buildings. The town has a number of facilities, such as the swimming pool, shops, bars and eateries. Nearby there’s a fine beach to walk along at Langisandur – it is even possible to swim here in fine weather.
