Akurey is an island off the South East coast of Iceland. It has never been officially inhabited and so shows the unchanged natural scenery of the country at its best. The island belonged to the Church of Vik from 1379, when it was used to cultivate crops. It now is considered to be part of the municipality of Reykjavik. Akurey is one of only two Islands in Iceland where Puffins can be spotted nesting, and the waters around the Island are commonly used by boats on whale-watching trips.
