Akureyris golf course is the most northerly in the world. Every year it hosts a golf tournament in the middle of summer, when the nights are light, which runs round the clock. This is known as the Arctic Open, and has attracted a number of big names in golf over the years. When golf is played here during the winter months, black or blue golf balls are used so they can be seen against the snow. The course is 18 holes.
