The port in Akureyri is the first taste of the town for many visitors. In recent years it has become an ever-increasing port of call for cruise ships traversing northern Iceland’s coastline. Akureyri is Iceland’s second largest port, after Reykjavik. As well as passenger traffic, it also handles a good number of fishing and freighter vessels. It can be found at the heart of the town.
