Álfaborg is a large hill on the outskirts of the a village called Bakkagerði, close to the fjord of Borgarfjörður. Álfaborg is reputed amongst locals to be the ‘Capital of elves and fairies,’ as it is said to be inhabited by the hidden people and their queen. There an easy to find and climb path leading to the top of the hill which is well worth the ascent. The panoramic view from the top is stunning and shows the natural scenery at it’s best. Álfaborg and the surrounding area is part of protected natural property.
