Bakkafjörður is an inlet from the ocean in the northern part of east Iceland. The beauty of the area is accented by a large area of open space surrounded by the massive mountains of the Langanes-peninsula located to the west. The fjord and surrounding land lies low so unlike many fjords in Iceland they are not constantly in shade. On the eastern shore lies the town of Höfn. The inlet of the fjord is used as a base for the local fisharies industry which many locals are involved in. An excellent overview of the region can be enjoyed at the mountain Sandvíkurheiði, at a height of 275 meters.
