Barðsnes is a peninsula containing the most easterly volcano in Iceland. Over the years glaciers and waves have eroded much of the volcano away leaving the distinctive and brightly coloured rhyolite underneath. Rhyolite also forms cliffs on the peninsula, called Rauðubjörg, and locals believe that if the sun shines on the cliffs in the evening then the next day will bring good weather. The area is an interesting place for geological enthusiasts and walkers who appreciate the stunning natural beauty of the area.
