Bjarnarflag is an active geothermal area in northern Iceland. It is located 3km east of the town of Reykjahlid, next to Lake Myvatn. The area steams and bubbles to this day, with water pouring out of holes in the ground at 200 degrees Celsius. Many attempts were made to harness the energy here, although today only the remains of bore holes and a few abandoned structures. An area known as the Blue Lagoon (not to be confused with that near Reykjavik) is all that remains of a microfossil plant. It has turquoise and blue waters which are quite stunning against the landscape.
