Brokey Island is the largest in Breidafjord Bay, in western Iceland. It is located a short distance from the town of Stykkisholmur. Brokey Island has been inhabited for centuries, mainly by farmers and fishermen. Two famous inhabitants include Jon Petursson, who was a hunter and had travelled around Europe, and Hans Becker – a Dane who became a lawman and writer on Icelandic subjects. His works can still be read today. The island is still farmed, and is quite remote and basic.
