Byggđasafn is the folk museum in Heimaey, on the Westman Islands. It is housed inside Heimaey’s library and covers lots of the town and islands’ history. If you want to see pictures of the 1973 eruptions and evacuations then this is the place. There’s even a collection of items from the short-lived Nazi regiment on the islands. The museum is open only in the summer and charges a small entrance fee.
