One of Iceland’s best-loved poets, and a poet laureate (the second to live in Akureyri) was David Stefansson. He lived from 1895 to 1964, dying in his home here on Bjarkarstigur in central Akureyri. The home has been preserved as he left it, with many of his possessions and furnishings on display. Visitors can learn about his life and works, and read some of his poetry and plays. The museum is known as Davidshus, and is open from June to August, with a small admission fee.
