Dimmuborgir is a lava field near Myvatn Lake and the town of Reykjahlid in northern Iceland. It is one of the largest and best-known lava fields in the country, covering a large area. Within its borders it includes many natural arches, pillars, caves and other lave-formed rock phenomena. It dates back over 2,000 years, when this area last erupted. Visitors can take any of a number of walking routes through Dimmuborgir. Each is colour coded, and leads the visitor past the most interesting rock formations. Be careful not to stray from the marked paths as the landscape is dangerous.
