Djupalonssandur Beach can be found on the western edge of the Snaefellsnes park in Iceland, at the community of Djupalon. This is a black sand beach in a wild setting, full of rock outcrops – a result of lava flows and the effects of the sea. The beach is an interesting place to walk. On the beach you may also see a series of lifting stones which were once used to test the strength of prospective fishermen to prove they were up to a life at sea. Each is a different weight.
