Dyrfjöll is a huge mountain in a range on the northeast coast of Iceland. The name Dyrfjöll literally means mountain of the Door, and it is named so because the huge gap in the centre of the mountain which looks like a door. Climbing Dyrfjöll is hard, and should only be attempted by serious mountaineers, but well worth it for the stunning panoramic views from the top. The nearby area is also good for less strenuous hikes. The mountainous area is a part of the oldest section of Iceland and dates back about 16 million years.
