Eidar is located 14km north of Egilsstadir, close to Lagarfljot lake, and off Route 94. It exists as the site of a farm where Hrafnkell Freysgodi – a key character in Hrafnkells Saga – lived. There is a church which stands here today, dating from 1887. Inside it is quite minimal, and has a statue of Christ which was washed up on the shore of the lake nearby. There are a number of houses in the village, and a guesthouse. Fishing is popular in the area.
