Eldey Island, also known as the fire island, is a huge rock island which stands 77 meters high out of the ocean about 15km South of the Reykjanes penninsula in Iceland. It is the largest island in a cluster called the Eley. The Eldey is famous for it’s gannet colony; over 70,000 birds have been counted there and bird-watching trips often sail close to the island to see them. The rock can also be climbed by brave and skilled rock-climbers.
