Eldfell and Helgafell are the two volcanoes on the island of Heimaey in the Westmann Islands. Eldfell was responsible for the sudden eruptions in 1973 which added a lot of extra land to the island, and buried hundreds of homes. Helgafell hasn’t erupted for 5,000 years. It is possible to hike to the summits of both volcanoes, and this is not particularly taxing. At the top you will experience fantastic views over the island, and can even feel the ground which is still warm.
