Eldgja is a gorge in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in southern Iceland. It is known as the Fire Gorge because of its volcanic origins, and the colour of the rocks here. This is an old volcanic rift which is 600m deep in the north. In the southern part, the Hanipufit part of Eldgja is characterised by the beautiful waterfalls which are 500m wide in places, where the River Skafta runs. It is usually only possible to reach this part of the Reserve by 4WD vehicle.
