Egney is an Island off the Southwest coast of Iceland. It contains many meadows which in the past have been used for haymaking. There is also evidence that the island was used as an outlet for fishing vessels. The island was once inhabited, but has had no-one living on it since the 1960’s. There were two churches on the island, the earliest dating from 1379, but these have since been burnt down. One of Iceland’s former Prime Ministers, Bjarni Benediktsson comes from Energy. The lighthouse on the northern end of the island was built in 1902 and was restored in 1937.
