Esja is a scenic mountain near Hvalfjörđur in western Iceland. It is perfect for hiking and walking, since its height is a mere 914 metres. A trail runs from the old Esjuberg farm, which was home to Iceland’s first church. It is easy to reach – just take the turning from Route 1 near Mosfellsbaer. The views at the summit cover the surrounding coast, fjords and up to Snaefellsnes on a clear day.
