Sjóminjasafn, or the Maritime Museum in Eskifjörður is open daily from Jume to August in the afternoons. The museum is housed in one of the shops, Gamlabúð, which is a nineteenth century warehouse. The building was built in 1816 and is timber made and covered in creosote. Inside the museum is a collection of boats and other sea-related items. There are also models of bigger boats, original nets and a skiff. Outside the museum and along the road is a bronze statue of a sailor kneeling down, which is a symbol for protection at sea.
