Eskifjörður is a small town in East Iceland situated near the north shore of the fjord Eskifjörður. The town is sheltered by a large mountain, Hólmatindur which makes it picturesque and a beautiful place to explore. From the top of this mountain it is possible to see some of the highest mountains in Iceland. Eskifjörður contains many interesting shops and a maritime museum. The main industries supporting the town are fishing and farming, and since 1786 Eskifjörður has been an authorized trade post. Close to the town is the Helgustaðanáman mine which is a major attraction for tourists.
