The lovely wooden church in Eyrarbakki, which dominates the small village’s skyline with its tower, dates from 1890. It is in a style of most other rural Icelandic churches. However, the particular claim to fame of this church is that its altar was painted by Queen Louise of Denmark, who was the wife of King Christian IX – an ancestor of British royalty. The lovely interior is serene and peaceful. Regular services are held here.
