Fáskrúðsfjörður is a bay containing a town near the coast in East Iceland. The area is beautiful and mountainous with abundant wild plant species including wild aspens. The town is located at the end of a 15km long fjord and was established by French fishermen in the 19th century. The French have now left but the town echoes their existence with French relics such as the City Hall, and the road signs are written in both French and Icelandic. Every summer a French festival reminds the town of its heritage.
