Alongside Akureyri’s Folk Museum is a small wooden church. This was built in Svalbard in 1846 and served the town for many years. It was the first wooden building in the area. Following its closure in 1970, it was moved to Akureyri. Today it is known as the Folk Museum Church. Also on the site is a well-maintained garden which dates from 1898. It was here that Iceland’s first trees were cultivated.
