At the tip of the Reykjanes peninsula, just north of Keflavik airport, are two lighthouses. These form the Garšskagavita Folk Museum. The older of the two lighthouses dates from 1897, whilst the other is more modern and houses the main part of the museum. Visitors can enter both lighthouses to look at the workings and enjoy the view from the top. The older lighthouse is also used today as a centre for studying the migration of birds. The museum covers the history of the lighthouses and the culture of this part of Iceland through the ages.
