Gerdahreppur is a lovely little village to the north of Iceland’s main international airport at Keflavik. It is also near one of the country’s only Links golf courses at Leira. This place has been settled since Viking times, and visible earthworks mark their former settlement to this day. There are two lighthouses here, which are landmarks of the area. One of them is now used as a Local Folk Museum where you can learn all about the area, the lighthouses and the bird populations. Gerdahreppur has a campsite and a number of places to eat.
