Grotta is a tiny island connected to Reykjavik at its north western corner. Today it houses an lighthouse, which was constructed in 1897. Originally a farm was located on the island, and later fisheries and their boats. Today the island is a mini bird haven and area of recreation which the city dwellers love to spend time it. Beware, however, that the causeway linking the island to Reykjavik is flooded at high tide!
