The Hafnarborg Institute of Culture and Fine Art was opened in 1988, after the donation of a considerable art collection to the institute in 1983. Since 2007 the museum has been open with free admission after sponsorship was obtained from Glitnir. The museum houses three exhibition galleries and a café gallery, with exhibitions from abroad and from local artists. Guided tours are available on request, along with educational programs relating to the exhibitions. Hafnarborg also is used as a concert hall for a free lunchtime concert taking place the first Thursday of every month.
