Hafnir was once an important Icelandic fishing port, and is now a growing tourist attraction in Reykjanes. The picturesque village contains an aquarium and church that are well worth a visit. When walking through the village one comes across a large anchor on display by the side of the road; this once belonged to the ship Jamestown which ran aground in 1870, losing all souls on board. The village contains many traditional wood-built houses and small local shops and is perfect for a peaceful afternoons visit.
