Hallormsstađur is close to the town of Egilsstađir and is to the east of Lake Lögurinn. It is a beautiful forest area which covers the site of a church and old manor house. The forest was set up as a scientific experiment to see what type of trees can grow best in the Icelandic climate, and so there are over 40 types of trees in the forest. The project is also showing that Iceland can grow tall trees for commercial timber, as the glaciers in the Ice Age wiped out Iceland’s tall trees. Hallormsstađur contains a popular campsite.
