Hamarsfjörður and Álftafjörður are the southernmost fjords located in East Iceland, close to the village of Djúpivogur. Álftafjörður is made of two large lagoons which are connected and separated from the sea by a wide isthmus – a strip of land with water on both sides. Both of the fjords grow shallower as they proceed due to silt deposits from nearby rivers. The area surrounding the fjords is known for it’s stunning natural beauty, and in the local area there are plenty of centres for outdoor activities.
