The ruined farmstead at Heggsstadir has been declared a monument which can’t be touched or altered due to its historic significance. The settlement here was mentioned in Egil’s Saga, with Egill killing the son of the owner. A court was held here for the region for many years. Today, the ruins include a round building which is thought to be that of a judicial sitting ring. Today if you travel to the site you can see some of these ruins and wander amongst them, although there is no official visitors centre or opening times.
