There are three caves at Hellar, near Hekla in southern Iceland, which make up the largest manmade caves in the country. The largest is 200 square meters in size, and dates back to the 1300s. Today it is often used for concerts due to the excellent acoustics of the cave, and services are held occasionally by the Bishop of Iceland. Tourists are able to visit the cave outside of special events by arrangement only.
