Hellisfjörður is a beautiful fjord which is located just south of Neskaupstaður. The natural landscape is undisturbed since the fjord was deserted, leaving it rich in plant life and wild life today. It is a stunning place to visit and hikers often will include it on their route and relax for a few moments in the calming surroundings. From Hellisfjörður visitors can see the ruins of a whaling station which was run at the fjord at the turn of the 20th century.
