In the heart of the remote Askja Region of Iceland – deep in the Interior – is the Herdubreidarlindir Nature Reserve. This is a lush area formed by springs flowing through the lava fields of Odadahraun. The area gets its colour from the mosses and colourful flowers that grow here. The reserve has a visitors centre which is open from June to August and gives out information on trails, history and other sights here. There is also a camp site and a small hostel on the site. A hut once used by Fjalla-Eyvindur can be found behind the information centre, although it has been rebuilt.
