Höfði House in Reykjavik is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It was initially built for the French consul in Iceland to aid the French fishermen who frequented there in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is made of wood and was imported from Norway. Most famously, it was the meeting place of US president Regan and Gorbachev in 1986; a meeting which aided the end of the cold war. The USA and USSR flags are now hung outside the building to commemorate this meeting.
