Hnífsdalur is a small village on the coast north of Isafjordur in Iceland’s western fjords. The village is famous for its fishing industry, in which large amounts of dried haddock and rotten shark – both delicacies in Iceland – are produced. You will usually see, and smell, fish drying in the various warehouses around the village. Just inland from Hnífsdalur is a lovely valley which is perfect for walking. It leads to the scenic Sydridalsvatn lake.
