Höfn means harbour, and it is a small town in the East of Iceland. The local area is dominated by Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull. The town has 2,500 residents who are mostly employed in the fishing and fish processing industry. The town has many restaurants which specialize in serving fresh local fish, lobsters and prawns. The harbour requires regular dredging as sand deposits can build up and impede the entrance to the port. The town has a church, folk museum and maritime museum. Spring migratory birds often appear first at Höfn. Höfn also has it’s own domestic airport.
