Hofsos is a small fishing village in northern Iceland which is a popular stop for those travelling along the coast of Skagafjordur. Trading here dates back to the 1500s, although it is not as prevalent today. The town’s main attraction is the Icelandic Emigration Center, which deals with the history of people leaving Iceland for North America, and has a number of exhibitions and a research centre. Elsewhere, Hofsos has a bank, post office and a number of shops.
