Hornstrandir is a peninsula at the northernmost point of Iceland – a part of the westfjords region. It is a wonderful area of natural vegetation and wilderness, which is one of the last remaining uninhabited areas of Europe. The area is now a protected national park with no services, accommodation or roads in its interior. Therefore it is an attractive prospect for serious outdoors types, such as mountain climbers and hikers. Most people enter at Hesteyri and Hornvik, and the best months are June to August. Boat services link the remote villages on the exterior of the park.
