South of Pingeyri in Iceland’s Westfjords is Hrafnseyri. Here you’ll find the Hrafnseyri Museum, which is a small local history museum telling the story of the town and region. It primarily deals with the life and times of Jon Sigurdsson, who was instrumental in gaining Iceland’s independence on 17th June 1811. He was born in Hrafnseyri, and so the small town is very proud of this history. The museum is open only in the busy summer months, and has a small entrance fee for adults.
