Hraunhafnartangi is mainland Iceland’s most northerly point. It is located at the end of a peninsula in the remote Melrakkaslet Tarnes region. The point is not frequented by many visitors, although it is quite easily accessible from the main road. It tends to have a desolate, edge-of-the-world feel about it. Nevertheless, this is a historic point, featuring heavily in the Saga Age as a landing point and also a burial location. Standing here, you are almost on the edge of the Arctic Circle. There is a trail running to the lighthouse and grave site via the beach.
