The lake Hređavatn is well known in western Iceland for its beautiful views. Surrounding the lake is a branch of the National Forestry, along with many summerhouses. The environment around the lake contains plant fossiles, reflecting the climate conditions now found in Middle-Europe. The lake itself is 5km long, and 20 meters at its deepest. It is used for trout fishing, and can be found near Route 1 (the ring road), between Borgarnes and Holtavörtuheiđi.
