Hítardalur is in the Borgarnes area of Iceland and is an old manor house and estate. There used to be a Benedictine Order monastery on the site, but it was only standing until 1201, and there is not much known about its history. The name of the areas occurs in many of the sagas. Behind the house is a large mountain containing many caves, in one of which the mythological giantess Hit was said to have lived. The two stone pillars outside the house building are meant to be the giantess and another giant. The other caves are also interesting to explore, and many people have carved their initials into the stone over the years to leave their mark.
