Ingólfshöfði is named after the first settler in Iceland and is a cape which is a strip of land projecting into a body of water. It is located near the town of Hofn, south of the glacier Öræfajökull. The cape rises to a height of 76 meters and the terrain ranges from sand to grass to rock and cliffs. In the breeding season the cape is home to birdlife including puffins. Although access is fairly easy if travelling from a North West direction, it is not advised to visit the cape without an experienced local guide as a 4X4 vehicle is required and there are areas of quicksand.
