The Ingolfshofdi Nature Reserve can be found on the south coast of Iceland, near Oraefajokull – Iceland’s highest peak. Ingolfshofdi is a promontory jutting put into the sea with cliffs rising up nearly 80 metres above the sea. Many species of birds nest here, including puffins, guillemots, razorbills and fulmars, justifying the nature reserve status. This is also the place that Iceland’s first settler – Ingolfur Arnarson – stayed for his first winter in AD 871. A large yellow lighthouse and beacon can be found at the eastern end of Ingolfshofdi.
