Jökulsárlón is the name of a glacier-lagoon near to the town of Höfn in East Iceland. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland and is situated approximately 60km east Skaftafell National Park on highway number one. The lagoon began to be formed in 1934 and increases in size each year. The lagoon contains large ice blocks which have been freed from the edge of the glacier and float in the lagoon. The lagoon is about 200 meters deep and often seals can be seen swimming in it looking for food as the lagoon contains plentiful fish from the Atlantic Ocean. The lagoon is peaceful and beautiful and well worth a visit.
