The Kerid Crater near Skalholt is 55 metres deep. It is an explosion crater, and at the bottom has a small green lake. It was formed around 3000 years ago, and is part of a group of volcanic craters in the immediate vicinity. You will also see volcanic cones around. The spot is a favourite for photographers visiting southern Iceland due to the variations in the natural colours and the scenic views. Once, a rock concert was even held here, with the band floating on a raft on the lake!
